DaltonGang, if my dad were still living, he'd debate you until the cows come home. My father was a dyed in the wool Gillette kind of guy and as a matter of fact? He was horse trading Gillettes back in the 50's. He always wanted the Coronation Set and from time to time he'd have a Rocket or two of sorts. Heck, I was in high school and I didn't keep track of that kind of stuff. :)

I just pulled out a pack of of Vintage Gillette Blue Blades. They looked perfect, and still a little oil on them. I didn't think they were so bad, until about half way through, the first pass. It started to tug a little more. So, i tossed in a Tatra blade I had in before, with 4 shaves on it. Smooth as silk. It all reminded me of the last time I tried an old carbon steel blade. Bad bad bad. I don't think these old carbon steel blades hold up well, over time, even if they look good.

The very best GBB and hot water soak, conditioner, hot lather and all? And that shave was still terrible to the shave we're getting today?:eatdrink047:

p.s. A guy who fires up a GBB? You either have to be a masochist or really be in need of something to do?:D

Yes. Not terrible, but not pleasant. Hot shower, hot face towel, and a very good lather of Arko. I just jumped right in, with the used Tatra, and it was a night and day difference. I used a Gillette Fatboy set on 5.

A little of both. I usually use a Straight Razor, if that doesn't explain it all.

No straight razors here but I do like razors with combs, either long or short. Blades? So many and so many are excellent, I typically use a blade all week and sometimes more and none ever need replacing mid shave. Shave on.;)

Let me know how the Suneko's work out for ya? When I see you gifting guys with Platinum Gillette? I makes me wonder. I've been using the blue box platinums and to me they're super. What's the old saying? YMMV?

Wilkinson Sword (India) was my last 100 blade purchase. They offer the best balance of sharpness and longevity for me. It's my go-to blade for everything.

On the fence about these. These gave a smooth enough first shave, but not as smooth as the ones I usually like. The aftershave feedback was there, these weren't as good as we've been told, or they might just need to calm down after this first shave. One more shave should tell.

Edit: The first shave was with 4-5 days growth.
Second shave very smooth, on 2 days growth. I will continue to use this blade, until it stops giving good results.

Update: 52 shaves with the first blade. A fantastic blade.

Gary, you ever thought of the idea on taking less vitamins? I'm certain that good nutrition plus vitamin supplements are causing your beard to thicken and grow like scrub brush? Well my thoughts on the matter anyway? Oh? And by the way? Merry Christmas to you and to yours. :eatdrink047:

I have a hundred Gillette Platinums and fifty Minoras headed my way.

The Plats are outstanding blades. I have a pre-existing stash of 200 or so, but was offered a deal I couldn’t refuse. So I didn’t :D

Never tried the Minoras, so why not?

    200 received today.

I am very impressed with these blades, so far. I am trying to see how many shaves can be had, before the blade gives it up. So far 11 shaves and still going strong.

Update: 52 shaves on one blade. These are fantastic.
