It was a multi page thread a year or so back about the soap flap, they said it was an old family recipe that his grandmother made and he knew how to make it but didn't know enough to talk about it. That said he wouldn't divuldge the ingredient list because some were expressing concerns for allergies before they bought some, wanted to know if it would trigger something and he wouldn't give up the list due to fear of someone copying the recipe and selling it. How a person can copy a recipe without knowing the amounts boggles me, anyway he pulled the soap and won't sell it any more due to people attacking him and badgering him about the contents of the soap. I've seen a picture of the soap and it's nothing more than a glycerin melt and pour right down to the Thank You inscription from the mold he pours it in. All in all a very shady cloud hangs over this guys ebay store and it's buyer beware when dealing with them. Oh and it was a B&B thread by the way, it's in their archives if you want to look it up. Very entertaining reading.
The thing that seems a bit "off" to me is that prices that his auctions command. I just saw a regular old micromatic SE go for $35 I think. Yes, it is in very nice condition but I can't see paying that much when I keep finding those "in the wild". They might not be as nice looking as his, but I'll gladly pay $4-6 for the ones I find before I even consider paying the premiums that they seem to get.
I know. I got into DE/SE shaving and soon took a trip to my grandpa (he lives here in Alberta) asking about if I could have any old razors of his. He told me that he was done with that garbage and as soon as the electric came out, he "tossed the lot of 'em". He's from Northern England. It's too bad too! My mom was telling me about his gold and ivory razor handles that she remembers growing up (she would watch him shave every day), and how his razors were beautiful.
I know the amount of older guys i talk to saying I used have one of them but using soap and all that , it's just easier to use a electric one,,
But recently my Wifes nan just said "I have some of my grandad's old ones if you want them" She's 92 so i hope they ARE Her grandads Razors. Just waiting to go see her and pic will be uploaded to the site same day.
Nice! I would like to get in touch with my relatives in England and seeing if they have any. I only knew a few of my grandpa's siblings...but most of them have passed on now, so I think I should act quick while someone is still around to introduce me to my Mom's cousins.
