I was a month from being 11 years old, pickin on my little brother and runnin like hell when mama went to break a switch. Then sneaking back in after she cooled off. Looking back, she should have caught me more often! Man I was a brat.
Fun thread, Steve! I was 3 and a half. Not sure if we were living in Tampa (FL), Oklahoma City (OK), Bremerton (WA), or Tacoma (WA) at the time. I'd have to ask my mother.
On June 5, 1981 I was 3 years old and getting ready to have my 4th birthday soon. I am sure I was unaware my birthday was rapidly approaching with the exception that my parents probably ask me what I wanted for a gift. If I am right, we either just moved into the house that my parents still live at or it was the following year. Great thread btw, keep em comin'! I think every year will be significant for some and bring back some memories.
I was 22. Depending on whether that date was before or after Labor Day, I was either winding down a summer vacation or beginning my second year as a teacher.
Wow, 1981... I was 25, excited to be working at IBM in Tampa, FL. I was the young kid on a team with several veteran developers working on a skunk works software project. It was a great career experience: long hours, late nights, etc. I learned a lot! I wonder where those guys are now?
I was living with my folks and going to college. (I has graduated from High School in May 1980.) I didn't own a car at the time and walked to work at a local pizza joint. Don't believe that I had a particular girl friend at the time--took a long time to get over my "first love" breaking up with me almost a year before.
Laying out the footers for the foundation of my new house, with 25 year shingles that had to be replaced last year LOL.
I was a couple months from being 5 years old...so probably watching cartoons, playing with toys, or rebuilding the carburetor...okay, probably not the last one, though I think that was around the time my parents say I "repainted" their car...with a rake, apparently...according to them, I really don't recall it
I was in my first job out of college, at a small petrochemical plant in the Texas panhandle about 50 miles from Amarillo. I was 23 and my main hobbies involved partying and chasing women. I obviously wasn't very bright, or I would have realized a chemical plant in the middle of nowhere wasn't a prime location to support my hobbies before I accepted the job offer.
I was a soph at Univ of Illinois in Urbana studying biology. I met my wife that year in April. My transportation on campus was my unicycle. I studied more than I breathed that year.
I was a freshman at the University of Iowa. No car! No money! But we had a great time. Iowa Hawkeyes went to the Rosebowl and were badly blown out! I dated a girl I knew from high school for almost the entire year!
