Time to update my response in this thread. I really like my Vie-Long Bombito. It is a very different beast. The hairs are thinner and finer; however, it whips up an easy lather.
I'm partial to the Omega 10065. I like it so much that I have two. That way I can alternate them so each one has plenty of time to dry out. I've been thinking of getting the 10098, though.
My first boar was a VDH, and I thought it actually did a decent job, even if it was a little large for face lathering. I retired it though when it continued shedding. I don't miss the shedding. I don't have enough boars yet. I have only a Semogue 1438 in use and I love the little brush. I plan on getting another 2 boars soon to put into the rotation. I'll probably get an Omega and something with 90% tips, the 1438 has 70% tips. I know no matter what I get they'll be relatively small brushes for face lathering.
I like my boar brushes enough that my badgers have moved to the end of the line...this one is an 80257...which, along with a pro 49, are my workhorses. I like the way this one looks and feels.
I thought I would un-earth this thread to get to the bottom of the original question. Any thoughts?? Semogue, omega, vulflix, vie long, etc?
I feel the OP worded it best when he said, "I dare not ask which is the best boar, but we all know there are items in all categories that are most coveted, most highly rated and in general, considered to be the most desired. What says TSD on the topic of most desirable boar brush? Which is it and why?" Best is an opinion. Most highly rated or most sought after is a quantifiable question
