It's your shave. Enjoy it your way.

Me, I can't stand 'em. Never able to get as smooth as I wanted.

Well, and let's face it.... some guys a) don't know that a good / better shave is even possible OR b) don't care OR C) don't have time and just want something fast.

Then there are those wet shaving zealot nut jobs. ;)

Or d) electric shaving - for them - gives a better/more versatile shave,
I also a person with pretty bad tremors that can't use wet shaving for that reason.
I'm just saying there's a lot of reasons a person may elect to use an electric razor and not all of them is because the person is ignorant, lazy or doesn't care. To each his own.

    forsooth!

I used electrics for years. They worked for me, but they weren't enjoyable, and it was really really hard to adequately shave my jawline with one. I get better results with my DE, but to each his own.

I used a Remington electric for decades, and it gave me great shaves. One problem I have found is that replacement parts can become hard or impossible to find for older razors. The screens for my Remington were discontinued and the Chinese made replacements resulted in horrible shaves, to the point that the razor become virtually unusable. I switched back to the Trac II for awhile (I had previously switched back to the electric when Trac II cartridges became very hard to find) and eventually discovered traditional wetshaving. Another thing about electrics is that the batteries need to be replaced every five years or so, which isn't cheap. The old Remington is still a fine shaver, but only until its Remington-made microscreen, my last one, wears out. Should any other parts break or wear out, they likely cannot be replaced. My Edwin Jagger DE89 won't wear out ever, and the double edge blades are very unlikely to disappear.

As to why no electric razor forum on this board, that is a good question given that we have a cartridge razor subforum. Then again, posters there are often urged to switch to a DE razor, so the same would be likely to happen in an electric razor subforum. It seems TSD is a traditional wetshaving forum, not a shaving forum, but that's OK. That the traditional wetshaving online community as a whole often bashes other shaving methods is far from OK IMHO. "It's your shave. Enjoy it your way." applies to everyone, not only us.

I see NOTHING wrong with an electric shaver, but I prefer not to use one.

I've used them and they suck. That's my justification.

and I and many others used electrics and liked them. I like DE's even more, but YMMV and all that.

This isn't a discussion of whether electric razors are good or not. A select few among our group will enjoy them. More power to them.

The question is not why we don't have a sub forum for electric razors, as originally posted ... but rather why we should. After we get past the bashing and defense, there really hasn't been a good justification of why we need the sub forum. Interesting that Admiral Beez, the OP has essentially disappeared from the discussion. Perhaps he didn't like the resistance to the idea, perhaps it was his idea of an April fools joke played in January, maybe he lost interest ... or maybe he got what he wanted by stirring things up.

I never saw TSD as representing all things shaving, but rather as a place for those primarily interested in the ancient art of wet shaving to gather and share information. Lazer hair removal and electric razors really don't fit ... if that is what we are gathered for. However, they both fit better than pens or cameras.

This was the first shaving forum I joined. Unlike B&B which seems to want to appeal to every one about every thing, this forum was true to wet shaving. Adding sub forums about unrelated topics dilutes the quality of discussion. At least this has been my experience in audio and we need to look no further than B&B to see what we might morph into. That is not a compliment.

I see plenty of guys using them while driving (and all this on my short commute to work everyday). I have used them in the past without much success (skin burn, uneven smoothness, itchy face), but my 86-yr old dad has used an electric everyday for years. Not my thing, but they work for some.

I'm of the camp that sees no need for a forum here, but I used to be a user myself. Started on my grandfather's Norelco 3-head rotary rechargeable and later got a nice Braun microscreen. I don't remember much irritation but it always left my face dry. I suppose I could have moisturized afterwards, but I felt like I shouldn't have to and, frankly, wasn't properly educated. That dryness is why I eventually started wet-shaving with cartridges.

And big agreement on this. It seems that many forums really over-extend themselves, I suppose in the interest of building community, but I prefer a forum that's just good at what it does. TSD has about the right balance, and it's the only forum I actively participate in.

That's one argument I'll never buy. We have 24 hours a day. Some of them we sleep, some we work. Then we have, give or take, 8 hours left for ourselves. It should be possible to find 20 minutes within those 8 hours.

C should really be C) Don't want to find the time, because 5 minutes is all I wanna use.

I used to agree with the time-savings argument for electrics, but now I think it's bunk. Unless you're taking the time to enjoy a "hobby" shave, you can wet shave in just a few minutes, especially if you'll shower shave.
