Well, unless it's penguin week at TSD and/or you enjoy running out of hot water in the shower.

I use electric shavers sometimes. I also use a Merkur sometimes. Sometimes I use my antique Gillettes. It depends on what I feel like using at the time. And once a week, I treat myself to a straight razor shave with my Dovo, or Genco, or Durham Duplex, with hot towels, steam-bath....the works. Why does it have to be all-or-nothing? There should be room for it all. Variety is the spice of life (but don't tell your wife that. I am pretty sure, from experience, that she will take it the wrong way....).

    True, variety is cool.
However, I dont believe pushing an electric device across your mug breeds much conversation.
I imagine the electric shave forum might look somthing like this:
Post: I used my Norelco this morning.
    Post: used a Braun.
    Post: pre shave?
    Post: no. you?
    Post: no.
    Post: face lather?
    Post: no, you?
    Post:no.
    Post: use soap?
    Post:no, you?
    Post: no.
Where's the new blades? the thousands of different soaps and creams? preshave and aftedshave? Vintage razors? How about the technique in which you push your applience?
I imagine it would be extremely boring.
Like your electric, great. Its your shave. I just dont see much exciting or new in the arena to discuss.
Honestly, is there enough discussable material to warrant a forum?

Well, if you cold-shower shave, I guarantee you won't stay in too long. Even more time savings!

There is just as much possible conversation as with any other type of shaving, such as discussing different types of electric razors, which ones shave the best, what is the best pre-shave, what is the best after shave, how to take care of an electric razor, where to find parts, reviews, etc....

It's the same old arguments that I deal with on every other forum I inhabit, such as fly-fishing vs regular fishing, traditional bows vs compound bows, crossbows vs. bows, muzzle-loaders vs modern guns, etc.....ad nauseum. I don't think it has ever been a requirement that you become a purist, to be able to enjoy something. There's room for all of it. If you like being a purist, that's great. But you don't have to force that on other people. They can make their own choices.

If enough people on this site are interested in an Electric Shaver category, then the site owners should at least consider it. Maybe put it to a vote with a poll.

    Just my opinion......

Im actually anti nothing. Im a huge, do what you want guy.
Having never used an electric I have no idea of the options involved. not knocking electrics, I just dont imagine they would make for good debate. I could be wrong (just ask my wife)
Just doesnt sound interesting to me personaly.

That reminds me of my electric days and it's spot on on the family and friends I know that uses an electric now. It's just a 2 minute shave and then that's it. Not talking it down or anything, but it just don't get any simpler than that :)

If TSD is made for wet shavers, I see no reason for an electric forum. I agree from mentioned above that it can dilute the discussions from what the board is really about.

If one occasionally has an electric question we have the General forum, right?

Oh, but you forget the occasional "excitement" of a rechargeable dying half way through. :D

I find it rather amusing that for all the folks against an electric shaver forum, this thread has developed quite the following - we're on page 4 already! ;)

One more thing to consider, there are threads on here I have no interest in and have never read, why not start an ecectric forum? I wont read it but evidentally someone wil

I really don't know how much interest there is here. Why not start a couple of threads (in "General") and get a sense of what the response is?

I think a new forum (on any topic) would be started for one of two reasons: to grow TSD by introducing a new topic for discussion, or to enrich the experience of existing members. Personally, I think the creation of a new forum should be organically driven by the needs of the group, as observed by the admins. Starting threads and seeing where they lead is the right way to go.

DISCLAIMER: I absolutely bow to the mods, admins, and staff of TSD. I've never started or run a forum, and their experience is magnitudes more valuable than my two cents.

No worries. He's being reprogrammed. I mean, uh, educated in the glories of wet shaving. Now, if we could just work out how to keep a brain intact through the dry cycle. <worried>
