Here it is, pre and post bloom. It is finished. I call it my Wild Cherry Silver Tip Badger. In my SOTDs I will be referring to it as Wild Cherry STB. You can see the whole story at THIS THREAD. I made this and another handle from wood harvested from a wild cherry tree that was removed from my back yard November 6. I got the silver tip badger knot from virginiasheng on eBay. EDIT: I have since renamed the three Wild Cherry brushes as Jayaruh WC1 Silver Tip, Jayaruh WC2 Synthetic, and Jayaruh WC3 Pure Badger. January 1 will be the first shave. Col. Conk Amber Shave Soap is up in the rotation. I will also be using my Schick I2 Hydromagic with a Personna blade. The brush is very soft and has some good backbone as well. I will be alternating between this brush and my other new brush, the Wild Cherry PTS (Pur-tech Synthetic).
I have since added an o-ring to the brushes as an accent. I am finished with the brushes now and have them in rotation for the month of January. Wild Cherry STB is blooming nicely. I doubt I will get anything bloom-wise from Wild Cherry PTS. Here the brushes are oriented as they were in the original block of wood.
Thank you. I am beginning to think you are right. It was a fun project that took me about a month to complete from the time I started shaping them. I was fortunate to get a couple of very nice knots from China, and everything came together. Both brushes are very soft, and I am really happy with the badger. The synthetic is a new animal for me, but it is holding its own. I would love to have a lathe for projects like this, but I am very happy with how this one came out.
Love it! I have affection for handmade items, and those are really special brushes, Jim. Love the background and how you've made the wood into beautiful, functional artwork!
