I'm not an SE guy so far. I've got a couple and am so busy with my DE world that I haven't even been interested. And I've already spent enough for the next five years...in principle
I don't usually buy backups of stuff, but if the Mongoose is as good as people say, I won't mind having one extra. I remember a few years back when the Blu-apocalypse hit and Floid Blue was being discontinued, I bought several bottles. Then they announced later they were reintroducing it to the market. Now I'm the US Southeastern distributor for Floid Blue. Never again.
It isn't really a gamble. As it has been mentioned before the feather blades the mongoose uses are made for Feather shavettes and used in cobras. Now the market for these blades just got even bigger with all these new mongoose users. I can't see Feather halting the manufacture of a blade they need for their own shavettes, especially now demand for the blades has just increased.
Agreed. Calling these blades proprietary is like calling Torx screws proprietary. Sure they aren't as popular but there is absolutely a market for them.
I've got a a mirror mongoose set plus a big bomber handle. I'm very much looking forward to this razor. I have a Cobra Classic that provides the best shaves. But the grip is awkward. That's why the Mongoose using a standard DE handle is a great design. It will be easy to get used to the razor.
Although it looks very well made in the video, I'm tapped out. I have already signed up for the Beluga and Rockwell on Kickstarter. When is enough, enough? (Wrong place t0 ask that question!)
Looks attractive. I'm surprised Ikon have not produced a headset for the Feather Artist Club / Kai Captain blades. Would look nice in Shavecraft satin aluminium with a Shavecraft Bulldog handle. If you want a "Feather" cheap single edge experience why not go for Valet Auto-Strop with a Feather Hi-Stainless SE blade.
If I try an SE razor it would be with a $12 Gem Feather Weight. Way too expensive to try out of curiosity.............
No. But never say no when it comes to shaving! I'll wait until they come out and read the reviews. Based on Mantic's review of the Rockwell Razor on Kickstarter, I kicked in some cash back towards the end of last year. They finally shipped two weeks ago and, a big disappointment. Except for the handle, the rest just doesn't look like a finished product. The entire head is cast stainless steel, unlike machined as the better razors (Feather) are. The bars on each bottom plate are bowed out and all are useless. However, to their credit, Rockwell sent out an email to all that a portion of their initial shipment was defective and they will be replacing them while letting us keep what we were sent. However, the only benefit to that is the nice, hefty, stainless steel handle.
I'm pretty sure I can make it to the end of my life with 2 razors only: Edwin Jagger and a Gillette Tech.
They are finishing up deliveries of the Batch 2 wait list razors now. After completed they are going to build up inventory and have the razors available for purchase without a wait. Not sure of you will be the preferred vendors at this point. There are 2 or 3 of us going through the January 30 day challenge with the Mongoose. I have found the razor to have an exceptional build quality and finish. Of course this is as it should be given the price point of the razor. Having used both, I would say that it is at least equal to if not better than the build and finish of the Above The Tie stainless razors. For my use, I have found that it performs very similar to a Gillette New OC, mild but efficient. I do enjoy shaving with it a lot. I'm very satisfied with the razor and would purchase it again.
I've been using the Mongoose for a couple of months now along with my Cobras and ATT DE razors. For me, the fit and finish of the ATT razors are second to none although the Mongoose is very good. The Mongoose with a Feather Pro is just too mild for me, but when I use a Feather Super, it turns into a razor that I can use all the time. Now, the Cobra or King Cobra with a Feather Super is as close to a straight razor shave without using a straight razor that I can get.
