Winn Dixie always had good meat.I miss the smoked ham hock cubes.Made great pinto beans with'em.They under went bankruptcy reorganization 15 years ago or so.My wife had a part time job at the local one which got closed in the reorganisation. In the last few years they were bought by BI-LO,who also owns Harvey's.Talking with some long time BI-LO employees it seems as if the merger was in the other direction. The store brand sodas in Harvey's and BI-LO are now Chek which was the W-D brand and some of the other store brand stuff is W-D items and they said their checks were now coming from Jacksonville(W-D headquarters) instead of Mauldin SC(BI-LO hq).I will say years ago WD had their own line of cookies, crackers and killer marshmallow pies in many flavors called Crackin Good.Apparently that line died during the reorganization years ago as none of the current employees I have talked to remembers them.I think the family that owned them cheaped out and did not relocate or update stores as they and the locations aged.Which led to them being in a position to be bought out.as cash flow etc dipped. Now I notice the stores are being updated and new stores opening. It would be good to see them make a come back. They had quality products at a price point below Publix, about the same as Kroger .

I went to the Winn Dixie near us today for lunch. Had meatloaf with roasted potatoes and turnip greens from the deli. Very tasty. They do a great job with the hot bar and prepared foods.

We went to a Publix, a couple of days ago, for the first time. $190 for three bags of groceries, and a couple of boogie boards. Rediculous, but it was late at night and needed. Wife's orders. Then, the next day, we drove an extra 15 minutes, to Walmart, bought twice as much, for half the price of Publix. Never again, at Publix.

Yeah, I loathe Wal-Mart though but even I concede to their pricing. Around here, you have to make sure you leave your valuables locked in your trunk out of view. More meth heads at the Wallyworld per capita than anywhere else in the area.
