From the head style it looks based off the Gillette Old Style. Though unmarked versions...I'm at a loss to guess what it would be.
My favorite safety razor lately is a 1912 with an Astra DE blade (i cut the side flaps). http://i.imgur.com/xAuQj4C.jpg http://i.imgur.com/PpsZlme.jpg I get at least 4 great shaves from one edge. In my opinion it is because the blade angle is just right.
For what it's worth, when I started DE, I got 2, maybe 3 shaves from a blade then it was out. Now, same blades, I can get 5-7 before it starts to show age. Technique plays a huge part to blade life, that I'm sure of. Still haven't tried my Star SE. It's in my drawer, loaded and ready with a GEM blade. I haven't shaved much with my Old Type, but my Merkur Old Type replica, I can't notice any difference in blade life there vs. any other DE I have.
