Here's a blade I scavenged from an ebay auction where not only was the razor misidentified, but the seller described the blade as 'ready to use!' Before lathering up my face for a shave with it, I decided upon inspection the razor wasn't quite 'ready to go.' Not only were the scales cracked, but there was a nasty indent near the heel. Reshaping the heel to eliminate the divot required some careful grinding. Happy with results on the blade 'reshape,' I made some new scales for the razor from acrylic. Aside from the heel, the blade required some restore work on both sides. I need to stop getting blades with engravings or etched as they can be VERY time consuming! Some specs on this Wostenholm & Son IXL Blade: 5/8" carbon steel, full-hollow with Sheffield notch Scales: 'Blue Pearl' acrylic; .115 width; buffed to 5k; hard to capture the iridescence of the scales in photos. Wedge: Amber Hardware: solid brass pins, small domed brass washers Hones: to be decided….
Thanks for the nice comments! This razor is heading to the hones next. I'll be using both the Apache Red and Strata (shown below) (8k; 10-12k) on this one.
very nice piece. if only these old razors could talk. its cool that they last pretty much forever and can be passed down thru the generations if need be. when I see vintage shaving stuff it brings me to a time before this throw away society we live in today.
Always a treat Kevin! Your photos make me wanna collect SR...maybe even shave with one! Beautiful work per usual!
This month's impromptu SR seminar on the 30 Day thread has been insightful to follow! I am now stretching my skin SR style with an injector...maybe there is only one more thing to try...
