Clauss Shear, founded in 1877 by John and Henrie Clauss, of German origin, in Elyria, Ohio, moved the company to Fremont ten years later. Schaaf, perhaps the owner of Schaaf's Good Cutlery, and Harry Zimmerman bought out the interests of their three Henkel Company partners, Dr. George Zimmerman, August Henkel, and Frank Kiser. The five men had founded Henkel in 1906. In 1919, Henkel Company merged with Clauss Shear to become the largest cutlery company in the world. In 1954 the corporate name was changed to Clauss Cutlery Company to eliminate the confusion with the German cutlery firm J.A. Henckels. In 1967 Clauss was taken over by Alco Standard Corporation. Blade condition: This is a 6/8”, round tip razor with double stabilizers and jimping on the bottom of the tang. No staining, pitting, or etching on this blade. Tang reads “Clauss Fremont.O.U.S.A.” on show side and nothing on back side. Scales Condition: Scales are in very good condition. Black plastic scales with a white plastic wedge. Nickel silver pins. Pivot pin is snug and blade closes on center of scales. Shave Ready: Razor is shave ready by my standards, yours may vary. Finished on a 12 Naniwa stone followed by a vintage Thurigan (the one shown in the pictures). Stropped on Linen, CrOx, and Leather. Razor has a protective coating of oil when shipped.
