In reality back in the day flowers were the "in" thing for men and women. The majority of the vintage shaving mugs and scuttles I've come across have a flower motif. In fact, rose was a very popular scent for the gents, as well. Yes, much more feminine in today's world, but not so back then.
I see a lot of these in the flea markets and antique stores. They were the scuttles made for a puck to sit in the top with drain holes I believe. Unlike the one I have that you just make lather in with a loaded brush. I'm might get my wife one of those "female" ones.
