That unfortunately is the prevailing feelings. That is what I find unlikeable. To say that you just set what you are willing to pay is not that valid. I usually change my mind as the auction goes. If I am bidding against someone then I have that choice and so do they. If they get the last bid in before the close so be it. But I still contend that jumping in with no time to be over bid with a snipe is not sportsmanlike. Fuzzy
In the end it is really just who wants the items the most. If you are that intent on getting them, then you will do whatever you have to do to aquire them. If that means sniping, then so be it. 90% of the stuff I get from ebay is by offering the seller a Buy It Now that is withing reason of what the auction will most likely end at anyway. That eliminates the chance of someone else getting in to snatch it away. Some sellers will do that, some will not. But, it is always worth asking. The worst that can happen is they say no............................. And then I wait until the closing ten secondsand place a bid $100 over the next highest. That always works!!
As a seller I like to see early bids because it usually attracts more watchers and bids. I just had a 40's SS w/ case in like new condition sell for $100 + shipping.
I love sniping, it's the only way I ever bid anymore... I do give you 4 seconds to outbid me though. See you at the auction!
Haha. I doubt is was a collector because because I am sure they wouldn't spend that on a SS unless it was NOS. Probably just someone wanting a nice razor with alot of money on their hands.
As a seller, I love the snipe wars. Especially when two or three rollsshaver-type bidders get in on it! When two different bidders both say "ah, I will just set a really high snipe and therefore secure my victory" then I am set
You know, once in a while, just for the hell of it. I will add an extra zero to my bids. Just to see how bad the "other guy" wants the auction!! :happy102
Nope not everyone. I get so unbelievably freekin' pissed when someone snipes me at the last second I can never do that to anyone else. Call it what you like but I win my auctions by actually entering bids.
So we buffoons can follow along, a sniped bid is some special program that will spit out a (hopefully) winning bid at the last second right? Is is a software download you get free off the net or what? And what is a proxy bid? I don't do eBay but find this all highly fascinating.
A snipe is a bid placed in the final moments of an auction. A proxy bid is a bid that eBay makes for you up to your maximum bid but just a minimum above the next highest bidder. This happens automatically and allows bidders to win auctions at prices much lower than the bids they actually entered depending on how high other bidders were willing to go. And yes there is software that will allow a user to schedule a bid to be placed into effect at any time by giving the software one's ebay username and password
Ok, but the sniped bid. Are you physically at the computer watching the second hand tick down and then place an entry? Or is this some special program that does it for you? Thanks for your answers.
Personally I've done it both ways. Either way it's a snipe because it's designed in hopes of being the final bid. The goal of a sniper is to fire once and not be fired back upon
