I have said "Kent's" somewhere earlier in this thread but, as time goes by and as I have gotten to know more soaps and more about soaps, my preferences have changed. My (current) favourites are: - Most (not all though) soaps from Calani - Valobra (the normal one and the mentholated version; not the stick though)
Hmm, I haven't pontificated here yet. Of what I've tried, my favorites are: D.R. Harris Almond, only I don't like it so much that I'd buy it very often at what it costs. Vintage Old Spice. Very nice indeed, but not worth what you usually have to pay for it. It's only going to get rarer and more expensive, too. Vintage Williams. A bit nicer than modern Williams, with a richer lather, but again, not worth paying ridiculous amounts. Modern Williams, cheap (in the positive sense) and good. Favorite for all practical purposes.
Trumpers Almond is #1 for me, best smelling soap I have tried in the sense it actually smells like something my Grand Father used. Performance to price ratio though, nothing beats VDH which is also another favorite.
Martin de Candre for me too. But I also have a bowl of 1960s Yardley soap I only started using after it was given to me by a friend last year. It's superb still. On the day I was given it, one sold on Ebay for $83!
I was brought up in a good English Family so it has to be anything from "Truefit and Hill" though my barber has just started selling it's own product which so far has been excellant and half the price (Pall Mall Barbers).
Best performing is between the palmolive stick and my art of shaving.. most exciting is taken by my Cella/P160.
coming from a newbie, what's a good $5-10 shave soap? All I have right now is Col Conk's bay rum and Classic Shaving sandalwood. I prefer the Col. Conks at this point.
While it is less than the amount you stated, have you ever tried VDH (Van Der Hagen) Deluxe? Another option would be TSD Soap.
Some days ago it was Mitchell's Wool Fat. After having some bad experience... Prairie Creations tallow-based soap became my favourite.
