If, by sacrilege, you mean hedonism, then yes. But, as long as you enjoyed it... It's your Dunhill... Fill it your way! @swarden43
It may depend a bit on the quality of the briar, the quality of the finish, as well as the finisher. I have a smooth finish Nording and Neerup, with nary a problem. Also, a couple of counter pipes purchased from the Tinder Box (later becoming The Briary) have never bubbled. They are both English, but no name. One of my 3 Chacoms has a smooth finish, the other 2 are stained, but no other finish applied, other than probably a light waxing, I would presume. When I bought the finished Chacom, I keep feeling of one place that didn't feel quite right, but bought the pipe anyway. On the first smoke, I noticed a very small, slight bubble. I immediately put the pipe down, and as it cooled, the bubble receded into a very slight indentation, really more of a crease. So the problem was a very slight imperfection in the bowl, which was filled in with finish, and was what I was feeling initially. Hasn't bubbled since. But generally speaking, I agree with Chris. In less expensive pipes I would stick to sandblasted/rusticated or natural unfinished.
I've seen some references here and there to this pipe, but didn't really know much about them. Thanks for posting!
I've heard good things about these pipes http://www.morganpipes.com/store/p61/Bones_Pipe.html A sandblasted unfinished pipe for under $40 in a variety of shapes with acrylic stems. I don't know who would buy the 60 pipe set though.
That's an interesting pipe, sort of a blend of styles. It has a long shank, appearing roughly twice in length as the height of the bowl, which is a hallmark of the Canadian family. But the bowl has a bit of bulldog look to it. And a long stem in addition to the long shank! I'm betting the combination of the long shank and stem makes for a drier cooler smoke.
Those would probably be pretty good pipes for the money. No bubbling there! Yeah, I don't know about the 60 pipe set. That would be a heck of a rotation.
Do you guys have a favorite online supplier for Pipe Tabaco and supplies? I have tried a couple but just wanting to hear from you guys on who you do business with the most. I have a local shop that's geared more toward cigars so when I want to try something new I hear about I usually have to go online.
that's who I normally use as well, I gave my last order to smokingpipes.com so I will see how they do.
