Sitting in my man cave smoking a country gentlemen with some Macbaren Vanilla Creme watching some NCIS New Orleans Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I wish I had a man cave, I have to smoke outside. It hasn't been to bad so far this year, but it's going to get hot soon.
Yeah it's nice on really hot or rainy days, but I only smoke a few types of tobacco inside the room, no cigars and usually just aromatics. But like most things that start out as "mine" the family slowly creeps into my space... Lol and it usually becomes the hangout.
I've never tried it, but it looks interesting. I looked it up on tobacco reviews. I take what I read there with a grain of salt, throwing out the extremes, and looking for a preponderance of opinion. It's rated 3 of 4 stars, but I also noticed a recurring comment that it is heavy on nicotene. If you're sensitive to the vitamin N, you might want to try it initially in less than a full bowl, and take your time with it, see how you react to it. It would be a no go for me, as me and strong doses of nicotene don't get along.
Here's the new Michal Novak rare wood pipe. At first glance, I had no interest in these pipes. Although each one is hand cut and unique in small ways, I just didn't find them attractive. However, as I looked over his pipes, as well as those brought by the importer, I kept going back to these. Novak is big on "ledges," for lack of a better word. I forget what he called them. But that is an ideal thumb rest, and each one is better suited to a right hand hold or left hand hold, this one has a slight tilt up to the right, but is still comfortable to hold in either hand. And they're light enough to clench, even as a straight. They're called rare wood, because Novak found a supply of 100 year old briar blocks, cut a little on the smaller side. These blocks were cut to maximize the number of pipes you could get from a piece of briar, without regard to grain or bird's eyes. According to Novak and Skip, this is how pipes were always cut in the first half of the 20th century. Although it looks somewhat small, the bowl has plenty of capacity. It smoked great from the first bowl, unlike many of my other pipes. As a smoker, not as a looker, this is a winner! But since it smokes so well, it now looks great to me! The little inlay on the stem helps in the looks.
Dunhill My Mixture 965 in a Jobey Band 225, 965 + 225 = 1190, and my wedding was in 11/90. I didn't think of that until I was contemplating the smoke.
Is that you with the ponytail? I checked his facebook page, Michal seems like a nice guy that's serious about his artisan pipes.
Ha, no, no ponytail for this old banker/accountant! He was extremely nice, very interesting to talk to. His pipes are a bit unusual in some respects, but very nice. Pipes like I got are around $100, with a little discount that day at The Briary. But most of his pipes were $200 to $500, well out of my typical range. That's Skip to the left, a guy I've known for almost 40 years.
I'm sure the marketing and selling is difficult in a small operation. His Facebook page indicated he sold 45 pipes at the Chicago Pipe Show, then went to Alabama. I can only guess what the expenses are selling pipes in these venues. He does have unique designs, and there's some attraction in having a one-of-a-kind pipe.
Yeah, I would agree. Each pipe is numbered, as a one of a kind! The pipe I got was simply superb in smoking. It was perfectly engineered, with the draft hole dead centered, and right on the bottom. Not above, or below, as I have seen on ocassion. The briar in this pipe has one very small flaw, but due to the age, it was a wonderfully cool smoke, and the A.J.'s VaPer smoked down to a fine ash with only a couple of relights over an almost 2 hour smoke. Of course I was sipping slowly, but I attribute a lot of that to the quality of the wood and craftsmanship of Novak.
Got the yard cut before the bands of rain move thru. Figured I would smoke a bowl of Mississippi River in an estate pipe I picked up. Don't know the maker the only markings I see say Italy on the bottom. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
