Saturday late night pipe, Esoterica Peacehaven in a Neerup full bent brandy. I took photo from this angle to show how the rustication wraps underneath and it goes up the other side. That makes it super comfortable in the hand. Tony
Just had a Kaywoodie Drinkless Carved Billiard filled with the summer blend. Cooking up a late night conspiracy theory radio pipe...
Early morning on Father's day. Drew Estates Harvest on the Hudson in a General and lots of coffee. I straightened this stem a bit yesterday. Now it matches the angle of the shank a bit better.
just got some of my pipes and things from the apartment to bring home. Straight away I smoked a Midi pipe full of Pipa Whiskey through a carbon filter. I wasn't satisfied so now I'm smoking Newminster Superior Slices in a clay pipe. Much better.
I do like it, but would have to say no. There are many blends that are really as good that cost less. This was a Christmas present from my son; I also, bought one 8 oz package on my own, but I won't buy anymore. Now Esoterica Dorchester might be a different story if I could ever find any. The Neerups are really good pipes for the money. Most are from around $90 to $125. This one is a full bent, and now I prefer a straight or slight bend.
I really like what you're doing with those stems. I will get some at some point and do the same, thanks for posting about this.
I really like listening to talk radio; I may have to get a decent radio of some kind to take on the deck or in the garage while I'm having a pipe.
Father's Day pipe, JA English Mixture in n my old reliable Charatan second. Sorry pic is dark, it would be washed out in the sun. You can see how glossy it looks, that is pretty accurate. It was a natural finish in 1978, and now has a near 40 year patina and is glossy from many years of holding in the hand.
Got my Father's Day order in yesterday at P&C. Talked to Russ via email, and he told me his Log Cabin, a Blend of the Month, was very similar to JA English Mixture a at half the cost, so I'm getting 4 oz of that to try. Also, I've recently fallen in love with Brigham Hudson's Bay, a mature Virginia and Stoved Virginia blend, but it is $16 for 2 oz at the Briary, and P&C doesn't carry it, so he highly recommended McClelland Blackwoods flake as something similar. I've also been intrigued by PS cube cut, a non aromatic VaBur, so I'm trying that. Also couldn't resist getting a tub of Chatom Manor, Russ's take on CH; most accounts say it isn't an exact match, but better. One last blend I have been wanting to try is H&H Virginia Spice, a VaPer with some cigar leaf added.
Radio shack still sells a decent tabletop multiband digital receiver for about 50-60. C Crane also sells great radio gear online. http://m.ccrane.com/radios?by=Category
Didn't get a pipe in but i went to work on the Regent stem a little today. Used a Mr Clean Magic Eraser to attack the teeth marks and oxidation. Then rubbed some baking soda paste on it. Stem kinda smelled like rubber and sulfur, I imagine that's the oxidation? Also, any advice on cleaning up stingers?
100 proof vodka or even rubbing alcohol, steel wool and pipe cleaners are what I use on my Kaywoodie stingers. I actually reamed and cleaned the billiard yesterday!
A lot of people were disappointed with the C&D Carolina Red Flake (mold in the tins), but it looks like C&D is making amends.
