H&H Lousiana Red in my Novak Rare Wood pipe. For some reason, the Lousiana Red and AJ VaPer taste a little sweeter, and not as Perique forward in this pipe. Further experimentation may be called for, maybe in the 4th Generation....dang, have to smoke another pipe!
Had some Samurai Summer Blend from the trusty Kaywoodie Drinkless Carved Billiard whilst driving this morning.
Got my P&C order today. I'm really excited about trying each of these, especially the McClelland Personal Reserve Black woods flake and PS Cube Cut. The bag to the right is 4 oz of Russ' Log Cabin, and the bag at the bottom is 4 oz of PS Cube Cut; the Cube Cut is almost half the volume of Log Cabin, as the little cubes are very dense!
I was at a grocery store last week and decided to check out their pipe tobacco. They didn't have much, mainly RYO cigarette tobacco, but they had tubs of Prince Albert and SWR , both over $50. I wondered why they were so expensive, then found the Finck Cigar Company website. They are based in San Antonio and sell pipe tobacco online in addition to cigars. They had this note on the tobacco order page for each blend. The excise tax adder is $1.75 an ounce. I guess I won't be buying much pipe tobacco in Texas.
Off work today, so SP Mellow in a Dagner cob with coffee and the paper. The Brexit vote result seemed to be a big surprise, should be an interesting day for the stock markets.
Over on the Pipe Smokers Forum, this gentleman documented his 1000th smoke with an MM Mark Twain. It's looking a little ragged though. http://pipesmokersforum.com/community/threads/can-i-be-a-cob-killer.52583/page-18
Wow! I was in The Briary last Saturday for a few minutes, and a couple of young guys come in (early 20's), and began to converse with me and an employee there, not Skil the owner. They were interested in pipe smoking, and probably interested in a cob to start with, to start I expensively, in case they didn't like it. The employee told them a cob was very short lived, and was a "throw away disposable." I didn't want to interfere with the store/customer relationship, but I couldn't let that stand. I told them that although they could be viewed as disposable, I have yet to burn up a cob, and I've had a couple of cobs for over 20 years, and several since then that show no sign of giving up the ghost! This post documents well the life of a cob.
The markets don't like uncertainty, and there is a fair amount of uncertainty around Brexit. I believe things will smooth out over time, and this will not turn out to be the Armageddon many are proclaiming. The way I see it, the Brits are taking back their sovereignty. As for the doomsayers, there are already talks in a few other countries of withdrawing. I believe there is a widespread dissatisfaction of ordinary rank and file people with the "ruling elite," and it's showing up in Brexit and the presidential election here.
Out of necessity, a late night pipe. Heat index in Birmingham area today of 104, and at 9:30 it was still incredibly muggy. Russ's Blend of the Month Log Cabin in a Neerup. First try with one of the new tobaccos. First impression, it's not a full on aromatic, but some casing comes through. There are some similarities with JA English Mixture, but they are by no means interchangeable. The pouch note was decidedly chocolate/cocoa, but that didn't translate directly into the smoke. The further down the bowl I get, the more the casing, however light, comes through.
In retrospect, that would have been a good call! As a finance person/economist, and being a former NASD Series 7 holder many years ago, I really don't think over the long haul this will have the huge negative effect many are predicting. Too late now for that short Chris; but I will be looking for select buying opportunities of perhaps a few individual equities. Generally I am a fan of the Jack Bogle philosophy of low cost index funds, but these are really strange times, and I think selective buying may be a better play right now than broad market investing. I just wish I had more available funds to invest! Disclaimer: This is only my opinion, and no one should construe this to be investment advice suitable for anyone other than BamaT! Tony
This is where short term precious metals and commodities speculation goes nearly into a bubble, correct?
