As long as it's not moldy or dried out to the point of crumbling, it will be good. Depending on what it actually is, it could be a completely transcendent experience! Virginia ages extraordinarily well, Burly doesn't really change much, and Latakia loses its flavor.
Hi Friends, i´m sitting here, enjoying my hot cup of Lavazza coffee and smoking my Gianmarco Ago pipe with RaiKo ChocoLat Tobacco. The Baccy has a very good note of Bitter-Chocolate with just the right amount of Latakia. Smells and tastes amazing. Greetings Thorsten
As mentioned as long as no mold or dried out should be fine. Any labels indicating what the baccy is?
First pipe was a DGE Country Gentleman cob with cherry shank with OJK...next up OGS in Baki trying to smoke at least one bowl a day with the Baki..
They were just in mason jars but they were heavily taped up so I couldn't even open them. That, and the fact they wanted $30 a jar, will keep me from going back to investigate further. Thank you for the help though
Big gamble, 30 bucks for what could be Carter Hall/PA or any OTC blend IMO wouldnt be worth it, even vintage. Now vintage Edgeworth Ready rubbed or something classic from years ago, sure. I guess if you can take a photo of baccy and post it, someone here maybe able to tell by the cut, color what it could be.
It sounds like it might be worth hunting them down. I can't remember which booth it was and the store is huge. I'll post pictures if I can find them
Well that's a good thing, all the way around! Virginias getting better, burleys not being hurt, and Latakia improving substantially, LOL! At least for me and Chris!
Just remember if you start getting into vintage tobacco, mold is fuzzy and "bloom" is crystalline... Bloom's a sure sign of a very well aged tobacco. It's up in the air what bloom actually is, some claim dried oils, others claim sugars. But it's hard to go back to fresh tobacco after some well aged Virginia!
Start with pouches, basic American flavors, on the cheap: Captain Black (Lane 1Q) Granger Sir Walter Raleigh Find out where you're at for less than $20
Sounds a lot like Sam Gawith Chocolate Flake; it's more of a cocoa versus chocolate flavor, with just enough Latakia to give it a little complexity. I'm not sure someone could tell it has Latakia in it if they didn't know. In spite of my earlier joke about Latakia, I do indulge a little from time to time.
It's been quite a few years (maybe decades) since I've had SWR. May just have to get some for old time sake.
I've been whittling away at this J.L.Pease since I opened the pop top tin. I've tried sliced & folded or rubbed, cubed, flaked, stacked by color layers. I like it. Gotta get s'more. Are there others similar? The savory Umami flavor is intense, deep, meaty. It seems best in a larger diameter deep bowl like this Schowa.
I'd recommend G.L.Pease Triple Play and Peterson Perfect Plug. Both are in the same vein but different enough that I don't think they'll bore you.
Much as I'm enjoying JKP, now I'm eyeing this Triple Play. I need to shift some entertainment budget to my baccy stash. Good thing I have enough shave gear.
This is where it gets serious. You budget so that when Father's Day and customer appreciation month come around, you kill it months at a time, cheap. $400-500 total, well spent split over these two periods, will keep you stocked all year on tobacco.
Only alcohol I've purchased recently was the small flask of Everclear. That was for cleaning estate pipes, not drinking. Never been a beer drinker. Brown liquors, especially Bourbon by choice. I'm Blessed with a non-addictive personality. Though I've sampled my share of recreational substances none ever became lifestyle choices. Exceptions being tobacco, and now shaving software. It's been over a year since I set it all aside. Still looking for a "regular" job and I'm
