I edited my previous post, adding that it is also a cool burning blend. Smoked at a moderate to slow pace, the bowl on the Canadian got warm a time or two, but never hot. I wish I had used GS in that Peterson that the finish bubbled up on. Might not have made any difference, but it could have.
100%! I will sanitize it and polish it up. The cake is in good shape, so I won't trim it. Pm an address and I can ship it Monday or Tuesday.
Well I missed out on the unfinished Savenelli Liverpool for $49.99. I thought that sale went through the end of the month, but the price is now back at $69.99. While I really wanted one of those, I'm not sure I want to pay $70 for an unfinished pipe. Especially when I can probably still get a Cacom or two for $60 at the Briary.
They will go on sale again. Never stress over P&C, they sling the same deals over and over. My gut feel is that Chacom is money better spent.
You're probably correct. The main attraction to me was to get another variation on the Canadian theme, if that was truly a Liverpool and if it was "just" a Canadian, I would not have been disappointed, plus I really want an unfinished pipe to see how the natural patina develops. I've seen an unfinished Nording after it had been smoked for 3 or 4 years, and it was very nice, with moderate coloring and a nice sheen to it. Oh well, it's either off to the Briary, a trip I really hate to make, or wait for the sale to come back around. Or both!
I am only here to help. It had been sitting in a shop in downtown Denver for years. got it for the nineties price of $27 earlier this year.
I've got an H.I.S. bent that is a really decent pipe. It's one of my two grass cutting pipes, the other being a Roma bent that I got out of a box of seconds for about $20. One unique thing about the Roma is it has two draft holes at the lip. That then requires 2 cleaners for the stem! I'll post a pic tomorrow. Opened one of my SG Chocolate Flake tins, laid a flake out to dry overnight. If it's dry enough, that will be my first pipe, and the FVF in the evening.
I love finding great counter/basket pipes. The rusticated Roma Billiard I post sometimes was only like $30, found it in a basket here in Colorado.
I need help choosing a tobacco, something else than the aromatics I tried for now. As low in nicotine as possible. I have no idea where to start between so many choices. I tried Dunhill EMP but it was high nicotine for me.
I highly recommend something that Bama Samurai put me onto, Orlik Golden Slices. It's a tinned, mild straight Virginia, even and cool burning, has natural sweetness, as all Virginias do (nothing like the cotton candy goopy sweetness of most aromatics), and is very low in the vitamin N, which I'm sensitive to also. It's a flake, and is best smoked by rubbing it out between your hands. I would recommend filling your bowl no more than 2/3 full, pack moderately loose, and smoke at a moderately slow pace. This will give you a full hour to an hour and a half smoke, and the flavor is virtually unchanged at the end. Golden Slices usually burns down to a fine grey ash. Two other good choices would be Peter Stokebye 701, and McClellan 5100 Red Cake. Both are bulk, loose, straight Virginia tobaccos, mild, naturally sweet, mild in flavor and low in nicotene. 701 is a lighter colored Virginia with some citrus notes, while 5100 Red Cake is mostly red Virginias, and although it has some of the Virginia sweetness, it will have a little different flavor than Stokebye 701, not quite as light in flavor. Both these should be loaded, packed, and smoked just like the Golden Slices. Honestly, Golden Slices will be your best bet, IMHO. I use 701 and 5100 Red Cake sometimes to blend with other tobaccos, sometimes by themselves. Some people complain about tongue bite from Virginias, but that is easily avoided by proper packing, and smoking at a slower pace. Don't tamp too tightly, and tamp just before you think you will need it. If you like, I'd be glad to send you some samples to try out. Just let me know.
Gonna agree with @BamaT , I've seen so many posts from him and @Bama Samurai about Orlik GS, that I just had to get a tin. Will be my first real experience with both flake and non aro tobacco; and I have a feeling it will become a regular with me considering what I have learned from them. It's also decently priced which is a big plus for me.
