Got one of my new pipes later today, but didn't have time to grab a pic, so heres one from online. This will be my pipe of the day, I'll let yall know how she smokes. I can say that it is a beautiful pipe, I really love the look and it sits nicely in the hand. It's also quite light for it's size; yet sturdy. And it'll give me an idea of how Pear wood compares to Briar.
That's a very unique pipe! I like the multi-color/texture look, and can see where it would sit nicely in the hand. That's a big thing with me. Looking forward to a report on the pear wood. It may take several smokes in a new pipe before you can really gauge how well it does, but sometimes one smokes well from the start. Hopefully this will be one of those.
Wessex Standard Saddle Bit Nolan's Custom Burley @Tdmsu - this line of pipes is a super value. $40-45 depends on style. They are made by Lorenzetti in Italy for the German and US Market. Highly recommended.
Had some Capt. Black Dark in my new Pear wood pipe, and right off the bat, this thing is a great smoker! I'm actually a little sad I have to let it ret for a few days. I may have to get a few more, lol. Also, the Capt. Black Dark is great. It's the coolest, driest burning Aromatic I've ever smoked. Also has a really nice room note.
Nice! Break the pipe in nice and slow... Glad it worked out well for you. ☺ I got to smoke a few times this weekend. Smoking some mildly aromatic Burley right now. I dedicate two pipes for this.
No pipes for me.... For the time being anyway, you all know that won't last! The day after Labor Day, I started having what I thought was an allergy problem, with a little sinus issue and a scratchy throat, so I haven't had a pipe since then. Now it's turned into a full fledged sinus and upper respiratory infection with a night time cough. Going to the Dr. tomorrow, and hopefully I'll get a couple of shots, some antibiotics and something for the cough. So, no pipes for me until I get this under control. The really bad thing about this, since I only smoke outdoors, is it's getting to be nice pipe smoking weather.
Thanks Chris. I have never been able to wear out colds and the such, they always turn into full fledged infections. Looks like at my age I would have learned by now to just go ahead and go to the Dr.
Linden( Tilia) tea is doing wonders on this issue, with honey and lemon. A bit old-fashioned but no harm in trying.
He and I are both from the USA state of Alabama. In our state, that recipe using black tea plus an ounce or so of Bourbon or Tennessee straight whiskey is usually how it's done. Helps the throat and makes one kinda sleepy. I no longer drink alcohol, but still do a version of what you describe. Good stuff!
It's a little breezy today. That and the possibility I wouldn't have the bowl finished before my wife called everybody to dinner influenced me to take my least favorite corncob out on the back patio. I packed it a little tighter than normal with Orlik GS and it was a nice smoke. I see I'm going to have to practice my packing a little bit, I have a tendency to pack too loosely. I'm not man enough to tell my wife to wait until I finish my pipe when she calls the kids down for dinner.
