This is one of my favorite blends. I received a tin from @Bama Samurai and will definitely be buying more. If you like Latakia, I recommend you try a blend with Syrian Latakia. Mac Baren has Vintage Syrian, and McClelland has several blends, such as Rose of Latakia, Syrian Full Balkan and Syrian Super Balkan.
Had an early afternoon pipe of H&H Old Companion in the old Dr. Grabow El Dorado; a Burley blend of steamed Red Virginias and Burley. It has a very light and mellow sweetness to it, with a very rich Burley nuttiness. Makes me think of Almonds and Pecans. Now I'm enjoying my after dinner pipe of John Bull in the same pipe; a very pleasant and smooth "Proper" or "Royal" English blend (it is named as both), consisting of Bright Virginias, Burley, a light amount of Cyprian Latakia and a hint of Black Cavendish. Not only do I find this to be a very nice tobacco, but I feel it is one of the best pouch blends you will ever find. And the price is just so ridiculously low! I've bought over a pound worth of pouches it's so good.
Second round with the Germain Brown Flake, in the Chacom Canadian. Taller, narrower bowl than the Nording. There is a difference in taste, although I'm not sure if it's the bowl profile, or that the Chacom isn't fully broken in. Seems to have a fuller flavor versus the Nording, and I didn't get the initial slight fruit taste. I think I may need to have a few more bowls of Orlik GS in all three Chacoms before branching out much. Some pipe brands are notorious for requiring some break-in; I've always heard that about Dunhill pipes, and once broken in they are marvelous. My Nordings and Neerups were great from day one.
Orlik GS in my Lorenzo on the patio, a very nice evening. I just wish it didn't get dark so early, but it's going to get worse. I guess I'll have to get used to smoking in the dark.
Having a late evening pipe of H&H Marquee Series Viprati in the El Dorado. This is a very nice VaPer; quite sweet, with just a faint kick of spice on the back end. May have to get another tin and age it to see how it is. Also love this pipe. The name is very well deserved too . El Dorado was the fabled city of gold, and to me, this pipe is worth it's weight in gold! Many thanks to @Bama Samurai for it. =)
So glad you're digging it! Viprati is in my cellar, your review makes me think I need to get it out soon.
I got home early from work and had a pre-dinner pipe. The Butz-Choquin I bought at the antique store had a couple of small bite thru holes at the end of the stem. I decided to try the cheap fix, a rubber tip sleeve, and it worked pretty well, it completely covered the holes.
That looks like two different pipes! Great job on the cleanup! And the soft tip covering the holes is a nice touch.
Orlik GS in the B-C after dinner, about an hour and a half smoke on a nice evening. I'm almost to the end of my Orlik GS, I guess it's time to place another order.
