Its the coolest smoking pipe I've ever used. I know its not just the long stem because I smoked a briar churchwarden a few times. I'm just over the 1/4 bowl mark now.
I didn't know it before I started but its A grade flame maple. I have more off the same piece that I was going to make a brush handle but didn't like. I'll sacrifice it for the bit tomorrow.
Just finished. It smoked all the way to the bottom with only one relight when I was typing and forgot to puff. Only a little burnt wood taste right at the end and it was a rough edge where stem hole meets bowl that charred and burnt a little. I'm going to smoke it again tomorrow then let it rest a day. It looks to be setting up a good even cake. I might repack it and sip on it for another hole and let it rest after that. It is both the coolest smoking pipe I have and the driest. No moistness in the bowl or stem that I can tell and it never even got warm to the touch except for when I lit it and only at the base of the stem. The smoke was milder then I've ever had it be with Captain Black, no bite.
Late night pipe This is a little Bent Bulldog, a basket pipe picked up in Syracuse NY. It's stamped "CZECH". No other info. However it was $17 and we'll drilled, so I gave it a chance. It came with a stinger but I smoke it without the insert. Tobacco is OGS.
Nice looking pipe. Is it briar or something like pear root? I see a lot of the eastern Europe pipes are in pear.
Actually hasn't been bad so far. Warmest November on record. Which means the lake is nice and warm. Which means is going to get rough around here when it finally does get cold.
I've managed to come down with a cold. Smoking and colds don't go together for me so it will be awhile before I'm participating again.
I'm debating putting on my coat and huddling under the 2nd floor roof overhang to smoke a pipe without getting rained on. I have no indoor smoking rules in the apartment complex I live in. The 2 bedroom units have covered front porches but the 3 bedroom ones don't. I really want to try the Orlik GF in my new handmade pipe.
Braving the elements smoking my homemade maple and brass pipe. Its filled with Orlik Golden Slice. One slice is just too big for this pipe. I ended up stuffing it in there so its packed tighter then I would have liked but it draws good and is still smoking well. I ended up with 2 false lights because the tobacco tried to jump out of the pipe both times but it has settled down and is behaving now.
So far my only problem with this pipe is that it wants to burn the center out and not burn all the way across the top of the bowl. I end up tamping more often to keep the sides knocked down into the center to burn. I still love the way it smokes so cool. The Orlik isn't staying lit as easily but it felt moister when I rubbed it out so letting it sit a few minutes will probably fix that.
I feel like I'm posting alot. I'm almost done with this bowl and I'm getting some different flavors out of the Orlik in this pipe. Its very good with a tangy candy flavor. Licorice maybe but not quite. I think my old flea market pipe was flavoring it because it is much sweeter and even milder in this pipe. I've had a lot of trouble kepping the bottom third of this pipe lit. I think its the moister tobacco and the tighter then ideal packing. I've had to relight a few times to keep from puffing hard on this new pipe. This will be the 3rd smoke on this pipe and it looks like its breaking in very well.
