First, Welcome to TSD! An excellent shave cream is Nivea Sensitive which comes in a 3.5oz tube for about $4. It recommends that you use it with a brush but can be used with just your fingers. Great lather and protection. Another one is The Real Shaving Co 5.2oz tube for about $5. Both of these are available at Walgreens or Rite Aid. Another option is C.O. Bigelow which is a menthol cream available at Bath & Body for about $10 for a 5.2oz tube. COB is made by Proraso and IMO is identical. Great cream. I've never used Cremo but have heard good things about it too. Those should give you some brick & mortar store options. Once again, welcome!

Hi! I'm a relatie noob too. Base on advice from the Board, I have Proraso Red (Sandlewood) and the Body Shop Maca Root. Both are great performers and easy to use. Frankly, which one I use each day is based on scent preference. Proraso is a bit more "old school" whild the Maca Root is more of a modern scent.

    Hey TSD,
I read all of your responses and I really appreciate the help. I had a bunch of errands to run today and there was a Bath & Body Works near one of the stops I had to make, so I dropped in and picked up a few tubes of C. O. Bigelow shave cream (they had a buy 2 get 1 free deal). I asked one of the managers who was helping a customer, an attractive woman, and they both said that it is a superb product. The woman said she bought it for her husband and they both think it's great. I haven't shaved with it yet, but will do so in the morning before work. I'm still open to sampling other creams and soaps, so perhaps I'll try something different in the future (the Proraso Blue Alone and Vitamin E cream that Bristle Me recommended caught my eye, too). Anyway, thanks a lot for your responses. I'll let you all know what I think of it in the near future!

Just a little update on my previous comment.
I tried today Nivea cream. It's a great performer. It does not feel slick, but it surely is, something like Proraso/C.O. Bigelow, you don't feel slickness on your fingers, but you feel it when you shave. I like it more than Palmolive on how it performs. Really great cream for the money. Now, the only drawback for me is the scent. I was expecting something in the lines of their basic blue cream. It's there, but it's having some floral scents to it too. Not the biggest fan of those. For $2 an 100 ml tube, it's surely a steal.

Welcome to TSD! TSD forum shop soap is great, proraso eucalyptus is great also. Both are relatively easy to use. As always, ymmv.

Has anyone said you need to try Speick cream? Because, in my opinion, you need to try Speick cream.

Great choice! I like using it every time I try a blade I never shaved with before.

I use TBS Macca root and really happy with it. Im new to soaps/creams and must say the difference on my skin compared to what I was using prior is huge. Nice scent as well.

    Hey all,
I've been using C. O. Bigelow for almost a month and it's easily the best cream I've ever used: it provides me with a cooling sensation, I get no razor cuts, the glide is smooth, the shave is close, and there's no residue or strange artificial coating on my face after I get out of the shower. A+. As promised, when I'm halfway through my last tube, I'll buy another few and experiment with some of the others you guys have suggested. However, when I find something I like, I generally stick to it. Thanks again for your help!

If it works for you, it's great. I'm actually the opposite, i hate sticking to the same products. I actually plan my shaves based on random.org, almost everything, what cream or soap i will use, what brush or what blade. It's more fun and challenging for me this way.
Did not started doing that for razors, thought, wouldn't like too much and Wilkinson Sword Classic + Derby + Lea combination.
