Another Razor that has upped its Game since I stopped using a guarded blade. I am very pleased at the way I can get such Top Quality Shaves without any problems. Used this Brush again which over the last week has got great lather from small to large pucks of hard soap, crops and creams.

The Proraso Red Shave Soap face-lathered well with Jayaruh #340 brush. Two passes and touch ups with the Gem Jr. Bar Lather Catcher with a Vintage Gem Cutlery SE blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Pinaud Lilac Vegetal AS. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

Good idea for a by side shave, Why a lot of these MFG's went to mild razors in the 1950's is beyond me Gillette,Gem, Schick....... people wanted them possibly or the Big MFG's just figured this is what your are going to shave with! I think adjustable's were just starting to make their foot hold to give all folks the range they needed possibly.

It would be a interesting test, I think Generation #1 is a little more aggressive & efficent just by top cap design and from my personal experience. I have been wrong before on guessing- looking forward to yours and @GAW9576 shave results with Generation #1 & #2 Featherweight side by side.

Wilkinson Sword Pall Mall, Wilkinson wedge blades
    [IMG] [IMG]

As per @twhite suggestion I stropped the blade for 100 passes after the last shave and then another 50 right before using. I also adjusted the guard for minimal blade exposure. This time the wedge blade was fine and not tuggy. End result not a very good shave but due to the lack of blade exposure and angle. I'll adjust the guard somewhere in the middle next shave with the wedge blade and then compare against the Gem blade.

I'll be shaving tomorrow. Yesterday's shave was so close there isn't enough stubble to do a comparison shave.

    Feather Proguard [ 6 ]
    Jaguar Prestige A/S Lotion

I currently own and use all 3 of the Occams A/C/SE Razors. For me the rather spud peeler looking Oren is the best Shaver of the 3, as it can be used with precision to get rid of whiskers in all areas leaving one with a Top Notch finish. Over the last 3 days I have used them in turn, and I had the best Shave today with the Oren, a real face stroker.

I think perhaps that the Oren despite its quirky looks, is the best AC/SE Razor that I have used. Others I have not tried may be better, but I am happy to own a Razor delivers Top Notch Shaves every time without any fuss.

MicroMaticMonday or GEMonday today, April 27th 2020- Well I thought I would do some experimenting today with the Gem Featherweight Gen#1 head VS Gen #2 head and I have both heads other than the handles and that is basically the difference.(It's not a perfect shaving world in my Den) All I did was WTG 1st pass followed by ATG 2nd pass on the left side with Generation #1 the original Featherweight in all it's glory(toughest beard side under the jaw line for me also)with no touch ups to see how best to accurately gauge the shave. And on the right side I went with Generation #2 head(Gem G-Bar) with same procedure. WTG 1st pass and 2nd pass ATG to see if there is a difference. If you go to a 3 pass shave it is hard to mark a lot of differences because all I'm using is feel of my hand. And the winner for the closest 2 pass shave goes to Generation #1 head for the best performance with a new Gem Personna SS PTFE (1) that was placed in the Gen #2 head after first side completed. Cheeks were very similar in closeness on both sides but under the jaw lines Gen #1 (Featherweight Gen#1 was noticeably better for closeness).
Looks like a different MMMonday today with a 2 razor shave which is a rarity for myself but also had a little fun also. [IMG] [IMG][IMG]

Razor: Gem Featherweight Gen #1 -MFG 1950-53
Razor : Gem G-Bar with Gen #2 head that was also on the Featherweight later models from 1953-55/G-bar MFG 1955-58.
Blade: Gem Personna SS PTFE (1) great all around blade.
Soap: Razorock "The Dead Sea" great scent with good lather qualities IMO.
Brush: Razorock Plissoft 24mm- great bush that I have used a lot over the last 3 1/2 yrs.
Preshave: Showered- washed the face with regular hand bar soap.
Prep: Cold water rinse after each pass of 2.
Post shave: Razorock "The Dead Sea" aftershave with witch hazel + a dollop of Nivea Men balm.
Result :Gem Featherweight Gen#1 head)CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + 1 tiny weeper= [IMG] good shave for a 2 pass shave.
    Results:Gem G-Bar with Gen #2 head) CCS,DFS,BBS + minor irritation + 2 tiny weepers = [IMG] reasonable shave for only a 2 pass- I need a 3 pass with a G-bar for it to shine IMO.

    GEMonday Shave

    GEM Featherweight (Gen 2)
    GEM Stainless PTFE (2)

Today completes my back to back comparison of the 2 variations of the Gem Featherweight. Yesterday I shaved with Gen 1 and today was with Gen 2. Results confirmed what I expected.

For both shaves, I did use the same blade, completing 2 passes each. One additional shave though would not make much of a difference in my experience on a new PTFE blade. I also used the same Haslinger soap to make the comparison equal.

Generation 1 gave me a more comfortable shave with better results.
The Generation 2 shave was more difficult to find the sweet spot and resulted with a small difference compared to yesterday’s shave.

Winner: Generation 1 in my book

Great Comparison, so the next time some one says the Gem Featherweight is nothing special we will have to ask him or her what Generation of Featherweight do they have.
Well Droo most folks would of not known because the latest greatest timeline (thanks to @mata_66 for that huge A.S.R. timeline contribution)has only been around for a year possibly, Droo you have been the first to show photo's of the differences in head design as far as I know. Thanks Andrew for being a keener of your Gem Featherweight razors and making Gem history a little more interesting for a few of us Gem die-hearts.
    Have some great shaves!

Thanks, Ron. I’m glad I could help contribute to the greater good of GEM razor knowledge!

*For the record, both versions of the Featherweight provide great shaves. Just for comparison shaves, I had to pick a winner.
