GEMonday, July 13th 2020- This 1st Generation Featherweight has to be one of the best razors to shave with using a Gem SS PTFE blade IMO. Seldom get irritation or weepers and it always delivers in my sweet spot range of finish.
With a New Gem blade you can get a silky smooth shave usually, might seem like hype but mostly the truth, don't judge a razor by it looks but by it's results.

    Razor:
    Gem Featherweight(1oz) 1st generation-Mfg 1st gen 1950-52, 2nd gen 1952-54-- Nice milder mid range razor.
Blade: Gem Personna SS PTFE (5) Great blade as in very sharp, longevity, cost per 100pc, very predictable wear IMO.
Brush: Yaqi Tuxedo knot 24mm synthetic - It has become one of my favorites to use, good lather, painting, soft tips.
Soap: Razorock Lavender- Excellent scent + Excellent lather in all aspects. They are going to discontinue producing it.
Pre Shave: Brush wash my whole face with CeraVe hand bar cleanser+ a dollop of clear Aloe Vera gel on beard area.
Prep: Cold water rinse after each pass of 3 + pick ups.
Post shave: Razorock King Louis Lavender with witch hazel + a dollop of Nivea balm.
Results: CCS,DFS,BBS + no irritation + no weepers = [IMG] Excellent shave with my Gem 1st gen Featherweight.

I had an excellent relaxing late shave tonight with the Gem Jr Bar and a new Gem SS PTFE.
This was my third use of Michelle's wool fat and it is progressively getting better.

The Tabac Shave Soap face-lathered well with my Jayaruh #224 synthetic brush. Two passes and touch ups with the TNNSER with a GEM Stainless SE blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse I finished off with Tabac ASB. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...

    Gem S/S [ 2 ]

Today in the Premier League with a Streamline, IMHO one of the few Vintage SE Razors that give the modern AC/SE ones a run for their money in terms of finish quality. Takes a lot more care and concentration using one of these "Oldies", but very rewarding to get a bit of a "Face Stroker".

This is the first iteration of the Type I without the hydromagic cleaning lever produced 1957 - 1959. Apparently going back and reading my initial impressions of this razor I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I guess when you dig a razor into your face hard enough they will all be aggressive. Anyways this razor is actually quite mild but still very efficient much better than the later variants. Looks like I need to revisit some more of these Type I and J razors and redo my dummies guide on them.

Would love to know your thoughts as you revisit these I types. Since your first documentation, you have racked up so much experience...I know how opinions change and sometimes not change as we gain experience in technique and have more razor types to build our comparisons on.

And you, Sir have gain enough razor experiences to fill several shaving lifetimes

As I look back I also realize I shaved like a masochist with the pedal to the metal. It is a bad habit acquired from years of DE shaving and chasing the baby weepers and shave burn be damned. I just have a really good post shave routine that didn't make that a deterrent like it does for most people I guess.
