    Razor: Christy with Massage Bar
Blade: Personna Mini Hair Shaper (1)
    Brush: Razorock Plissoft 22
    Cream: KMF fragrance-free

While I am not brave(?) enough to try shaving with a carriage bolt razor, I did want to do something in sympathy for those who took the Ides of March Challenge and use a razor that offered some possibility of mishap.

The Christy razor is a recent acquisition that came along with my Gem Featherweight. From what little I know, this particular version of the razor was made from the mid-20's through the late-30's. It uses a proprietary blade which is no longer available. Hearty souls have noted, however, that the stops for the proprietary blade are in almost the perfect position to allow loading of an Injector blade with a bit of fiddling. So, we have a new-to-me razor equipped uncertainly with a brand new blade for which it was not designed.... Sounds like Wednesday in the Den!

Here, unfortunately, is where I have to let you all down. From the first stroke, two things seemed apparent: 1) The Injector blade was sufficiently secure as to not be its own hazard, and 2) The Christy shaves pretty much like an Injector with an oversize head. It is a bit on the aggressive side (though probably no worse than my Schick Adjustable at a high setting) with lots of audio feedback. The narrow rod of a handle is a bit odd, but not overly so. The big trick seems to be that you have to ride the cap almost perfectly flat for the most comfortable results.

In the end, I did my usual two passes to a near-BBS. There was a bit of irritation and some heat from the Alum but no weepers or other blood. The irritation, however, I blame on operator error in failing to maintain the best angle and in some overshaving of already-shaved areas.

I'm not sure I'd want to put this into the rotation often, but I could see myself picking up the Christy from time to time.

My apologies if I disappointed any of you who tuned in today for a bloodletting.

Another great shave out of the Schick C1, They keys to success with this razor, like any aggressive razor, are keeping a light touch and riding the cap. This think really mows down the whiskers in short order. Two passes was all it took. One small observation after using the Shovelhead last week, the shaves with the C1 don't seem to be quite as long lasting. Have a great day my friends

Excellent shave today. Still Loving this new brush, and the rocnel has been on a roll so figured I'd stick with it. Baker Street is just epic, and platinum pairs pretty well with it.[IMG]

    Razor: Schick J1 injector
    Brush: Surrey badger
Lather: Deep South Soap Company 'Sawmill'
Post: Witch hazel splash, Stirling Mountain Man aftershave
    WTG, touch-up

The J1 worked well today as expected. This soap didn't lather well for me and I have a little irritation today. But otherwise a decent shave.

    Have a great day!

The scent of the Spitfire soap sounds so interesting. The juniper element seems out of place amongst the tobacco and leather. Seems unique! Do you like it?

Perry, whats the story behind your surrey brush ? Do you have any unobsured pics of the brush ? I'm thinking of getting one and restoring/customizing it. I'm thinking green with gold pinstripes.

It came as part of a set from my great uncle. It included the brush and a Trac II handle in the same blue. The brush was a shedder and I worked with Jim (@Jayaruh) on taking out the shedding knot and installing a new one.

Here is Jim's thread on the re-knot.

Here is my original post looking for info about the set.

It's turned out to be a great brush since the new knot was installed. The handle is very heavy and dense. I really enjoy it!

Yep that's the type. I think VDH actually bought surrey. But I don't think they currently make that brush in the green plastic/rubber. plus I want it to have at least a little vintage appeal.

Second full shave with the Feather Pro blade in the F. Very nice. Not sure it'll be good for three.

Since I was very rushed this morning, I am late posting. At any rate the shave was another automatic near BBS 2 pass shave. The more I use the Flat Top the more I am impressed. The brush matches my preferences in a badger brush very closely. I will say that I expected it to be more of a soap destroyer but so far it doesn't eat soap like the Chubby 2 synthetic. A splash of Fine Vetiver was a great end to the shave. I hope everyone has had a wonderful Thursday.
