    Jolly Good June!

    June 3

    Razor - CJB Greager
    Blade - [IMG] (4)
    Soap - Tabac
Brush - Wolf Whiskers Custom Silvertip
Post - Cold rinse, Alum, The Veg

Well here's a rarity! Me up early with extra time on my hands. How in the world did THAT happen?!?!

Third day of Jolly June and I've had two great shaves so far with the Greager. For those who may be newer here I'd like to think that my success at this point with the pain stick is proof of what Rules and Focuses can accomplish. My first month with a pain stick last year was NOT this smooth and great. Far from it. I took a few serious slices and cheek filets and few other disaster before finally settling down. Practice, ask a lot of questions and keep at it! Technique builds skill which allows you to Trump Tools every time! Well, ok, so not EVERY time. Stupid Tiger blade. And Flying Eagle. And Soyuz 1 razor. And.....well I digress.

Switched to the Wolf for the brush today but stuck with Tabac. Wanted to see if I could nail the lather on the first try and I definitely did. The Wolf holds more water than the Omega. Makes sense. Badger, boar, all that. So the lather was seriously slick and provided an excellent cushion. When I was done I squeezed out enough lather to shave a few more times. Now THAT'S a lather. And with minimal loading as well. I watched a really bad shaving video last night where the so-called expert said that if you use the right amount of shaving cream the brush will have enough lather for one pass. And if you need another pass you just add more cream. Two things.....the lather I got this morning is what it SHOULD look like and when in the world do we ever NOT need at least a second pass. I mean, a one pass is good enough if you're rushed or just going for a quick reduction. You wanna be as pretty as @Mr. Freeze93 ......you gotta have those extra passes. Wow, I'm chatty today. Anyway.......

Two passes again and on the second pass my first real mistake of the month. I let the tip dip a bit as I worked the jawline under my right ear. Now, the Dorco blade didn't do the number on me a Feather Pro would have, as I've made this mistake before, but it did draw blood. That tip just taking a slice as you dip it and it twists a bit....that will wake you up in the morning. Finished the second pass, didn't need a touch up anywhere so I went to work stopping the bleeding. Alum helped, styptic finished it up. And, the Veg burned baby burn on that spot but everything was pretty quiet otherwise.

Four more days with the Greager and then I'll decide whether to switch to a TSR for a week or follow up with the Feather SS for a week. Good month so far. I'm enjoying being back with the straights. And, it delays me for another few weeks from trying another fine blade -

    B-V3 shave #6

    RazoRockXXX - face lathered
    The Body Shop - synthetic
    The Bunny - NOTSO comb
    Chick Injector blade
    Alum & OldSpice AS
    Cremo Moisturizer

Some things Old are New again.
Today I dropped back from WILD to the NOTSO comb. My grip is automatic now, the handle feels correct held in a four point grip between thumb and all but my pinkie finger like holding a small paint brush. Angle of attack is becoming instinctual. I don't have to think about what I'm doing because the tool is familiar. While I did receive one nick it was knocking the tiny scab off a previous weeper caused by a fresh blade, the WILD comb, and nonchalance during previous use. Using a new to me soap, RazoRock XXX, I face lathered and kept it wet. I can see this soap would perform well with a straight razor. I may save the last dance for after The Bunny moves on. Very smooth results even though the alum stung quite a bit. After a generous dose of new OldSpice in an old OldSpice flask I applied a dab of Cremo moisturizer for darn near my Best Shave Ever. I still haven't attained the elusive Dolphin Smooth. Has anyone felt up a dolphin to make an informed comparison?
This razor has given consistently close shaves that come close to allowing for skipping every other day. If anyone is curious, find your Bunny Rep and sign up for your shot at Beta Testing an innovative new machine. I keep searching for issues to suggest adjustments or changes. My only thought for today would be possibly a longer, more girthy handle - I have large hands with thick calloused fingers.

image.jpeg The new Gotta 42 showed up today, so I gave it a test drive, and I have to say, the seller and I have different ideas about what is shave ready. To be fair I used MWF, after the discussion about it not being the slickest lather for me. Still not, but I'm working on it. It's definitely not the best idea for me while I'm using a straight. I even noticed something strange when I applied the alum. It dragged on my face like it was sticky. That's how non slick Mitchell's is for me. Oh well, I'll keep trying. And it's back to the stones for the Gotta. I finished up my shave with the Weber Classic and a GSB. No problems there. I'll pick a different straight to try out next, and probably use WSP, or Soap Commander, for a bulletproof lather.

    Injector/SE Focus month 2

    Cold water 3.gif

    Prep: Warm shower
    Blade: Chinese Schick
    Razor: Schick G1 Injector
    Brush: Omega 10049 boar
    Lather: VDH Luxury.....used it up!
Post: Witch hazel, Fine American Blend, Nivea sensitive balm
    WTG, touch-up

Last shave with the VDH today. I used it a good bit since last month. Once I figured out the water ratio and which brush to use it became a really good soap. It's also quite affordable, around $5 or so in major stores. I'll probably get some more in the future once I've worked on using up some of my other stock.

The G1 performed well again. I could have stopped after one pass and been just fine but I opted to touch up a little bit. Witch hazel followed by Fine American Blend then Nivea balm completed another good shave.

Hope you all had a great day and I wish you a great weekend!

    June Focus Day 3:

    Stirling Synthetic Brush
    Arko
    Bic disposable
    Stirling Unscented PSB
    Canoe AS

This was my first shave with a disposable since I made the change to traditional wet shaving. The razor didn't feel quite as smooth as a DE or Injector, let alone a straight, but I got a nice DFS this morning. The Arko was up to the hard Las Vegas water challenge, and it provided a great, slick lather. I topped the shave off with some Canoe, and I am now ready to spend some time with my parents, sister, and nephew before my nephew's graduation this evening. I hope everyone has a great day.

After spending all of the first 5 months of 2016 focusing on my Schick Eversharp injector razors, I'm down to my last two and my focus for June: an L1 and L7.

    Hot Shower
    Razor: 1965-80 Schick Type L7
    Blade: Schick (China) (1)
Soap: Route 66 The Black Pearl
    Brush: Stirling Kong
    Thayers Lemon Witch Hazel
    AS: Myrsol Limon

    1-day growth, 2-pass shave - XTG, ATG
I'm guessing that the L1 and L7 should shave the same. Maybe I'll be able to get through more variety of blades that way. A slow awakening this this morning led to a hurried shave as I was rushing to make my bus! No repeat strokes, no touch-ups or buffing.

But 8 hours later still clean and smooth except around my usual trouble spots.
Unusually hot, 90 degree weather in the Pacific NorthWest, USA led me to try my first cold water shave.
