March Focus- Be modern, Learn to use my Feather Artist Club razor. Any touch ups with a modern DE. March 18th, SOTD (Shave 11 of the focus) Two day's growth Prep: Hot Shower Razor Feather Artist Club SS non-folding with Pro-Guard Blade (8th shave on blade) Razor Finish: Van Der Hagen/ Weishi DE Blade:Feather- Stropped 30 times per edge (2nd shave on blade) Soap: The Shave Den Barber Shoppe Scent, bowl lathered w/5 drops of M-Bomb Brush: Omega 1066 Boar Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Aftershave: The Shave Den Iced Barber Shoppe Splash Did a three pass with the Feather Artist Club, and just a bit of touch up with the DE. I have a strip of hair on my neck that I can’t figure out how to hold the Feather AC to go ATG on. It points up from my Adam ’s apple to just under my ears, and is an inch wide. It is a different direction than all the other hair on my neck. I cleaned that up with the DE. Only downside of the feather is that my shower and shave time is up to 30 minutes now. That’s not going to work with only one bathroom in the house when SWMBO gets home from her business trip. M-Bomb in the lather is awesome! Shave was very comfortable, no nicks or weepers. I got a BBS today!!!!
March 18, 2015 : Ikon 102/Personna Focus Month Pre- Face wash with warm water, Stirling Bay Rum PSO Brush Soak- Sriracha Mug of Doom™ Razor- Ikon 102 Slant Blade- Personna (3) Soap- Mickey Lee "Italian Stallion" Brush- VDH boar Post- Cold water rinse Aftershave- The Cool Fix balm Two and a half passes :WTG , XTG, cleanup w/ a little ATG Best shave I've had since starting DE Shaving. No Irritation, no bumps, and my face felt great afterwards. Experimented with PSO again just for kicks. Figured out that I need to wet face, leave damp, apply oil, do my other prep, then shave. Let the oil soak in a bit and it becomes less tacky for me. Before I was just washing my face, and then putting the oil on right before the lather, and it seemed to not jive with the lather. Worked so well, I'm thinking this will be in the routine from now on. Mickey Lee soap did an amazing job again with lather production and protection. Still can't put my finger on what it is about the scent that throws me off. Not my favorite smell, but it works so well I have to get past that. I'm in the process of looking at the other scents and possibly ordering something else. The Italian Stallion may get PIF'd, we'll see... Skipped the alum to see how well the Cool Fix balm did on its own. Again, it was a success, so I'm really happy about that!
03/18/15 Prep – MR GLO Razor – Gillette New Long Comb Blade – 7 O’clock yellow (2) Brush – RV with Shavemac Finest Lather – MdC Post - Witch Hazel, Dove AS Balm and CC Sandalwood AS Fantastic 3 pass shave this morning with no nicks or irritation. As close as I'll get to a BBS on a workday morning. I really like the New LC. It could easily be a daily razor for me.
March Focus - Vintage and Carbon March 18, 2015 - Week 3 Day 4 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - VDH Boar Soap - Catie's Bubbles Razor - '46-'50 Gillette Tech Blade - (2) Post - RazoRock Alum & The Veg Another comfort shave today. Had part of a sample of Catie's Bubbles from a guy here in STL from December so whipped that up. Can't remember the scent but it's awesome stuff. Day two on the Voskhod just as smooth as day one. Three passes and DFS. Didn't chase the baby since I did that yesterday. Alum was quiet, the Veg refreshing! Three more days of comfort then it's on the the final vintage and carbon for March! Where did this month go??
03/19/2015 Prep – MR GLO Razor – Gillette New Long Comb Blade –7 o’clock yellow (3) Brush –Ever Ready with TGN Finest Lather – MdC Post - Witch Hazel and Dove AS Balm Great 3 pass shave with the New LC this morning. On to the Schick Injector for the rest of the month.
I've tried the Gillette 7 O'Clock Permasharp Stainless in several razors and it just doesn't work for me. Weber, New SC and LC and Tech. I will try it in a slim. If it doesn't work there, I have several Saloon packs I will be offering up for PIF.
Voskhods are my go to blades. No doubt about it. I keep trying everything else but always come back to them. The Super Max Super Platinum and Kai both share second place for me at the moment. Voskhod remains on top.
March Focus - Vintage and Carbon March 19, 2015 - Week 3 Day 5 Prep - Hot shower and towel Brush - Omega Pro 48 Soap - C.O. Bigelow Razor - '46-'50 Gillette Tech Blade - (3) Post - RazoRock Alum & Aqua Velva Ice Blue Day three on the Voskhod and smooth sailing all the way. No doubt about my love of this blade. Since using it in my 30 day rule in January I haven't had a bad shave with it, except for my Russian Roulette shave featuring the Rapira razor, or razor-like device. That razor could make any blade deadly. Great way to start the day and when I got home tonight I found my recently won PIF waiting in the mailbox. A good day all around!
As heard long ago, somewhere in the delta.. This is where the wrasslin' stops and the real fightin' begins.
I have really been remiss in posting. I worked my three nights, and had great shaves each night. Once I got to my three days off.... well, I took a bit of a shave holiday. Tonight, I was facing (every pun intended) a three day growth. I pulled a once used PAL carbon blade, and wacked those whiskers off in two passes and touch up. It was DFS everywhere, but a bit of roughness in the neck area. So, CCS to DFS after three days, and carbon blade.
March Focus- Be modern, Learn to use my Feather Artist Club razor. Any touch ups with a modern DE. March 20th, SOTD (Shave 12 of the focus) Two day's growth Prep: Hot Shower Razor Feather Artist Club SS non-folding with Pro-Guard Blade (9th shave on blade) Razor Finish: Van Der Hagen/ Weishi DE Blade:Feather- Stropped 30 times per edge (3rd single pass on blade) Soap: The Shave Den Barber Shoppe Scent, bowl lathered w/5 drops of M-Bomb Brush: Omega 1066 Boar Post Shave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Aftershave: The Shave Den Iced Barber Shoppe Splash Two passes with the feather, and some very minor touch ups with the DE today. DFS! Wife is back in town, and was waiting on the bathroom, so didn’t try to do a third pass with the Feather, just did a N/S and S/N pass. No longer afraid of against the grain with this razor. Alum block hardly barked at all. Struggled a little to get the coarse whiskers on my chin cut. May try a new blade tomorrow and see if that helps. Enjoyed the menthol goodness. Happy Friday, gentlemen.
@NCoxSTL, are you going to start with the Feather Professional blades, or get something milder to use? You can almost see the little guard wires on the Feather Pro-Guard blade on my picture above. I have the Professional blades too, but I wanted to go through a couple of the "safe" ones first.
