If we need a second Weishi/MTO for a secondary box, I have an extra. So we could have an "odd" box and an "even" box, if demand is high enough. --- The MTO was my first DE, and what led me here in the first place. I had no idea double edge safety razors still existed until I saw the MTO in a CVS. And 4 months later....
Yeah, a VDH is the same beast. Hopefully you didn't buy it at Whole Foods. I saw that they sell the VDH now... The store nearest me has them for $24.
I will photo my inventory today. Part of the fun of this thread is that Weishi probably started this hobby for some, if not many of us!
Nope I bought it at Target for $19.99. I never use it but I can't bear to part with it since it was my first one.
I think so. But also Weishi has had a number of TTO's out in the past that have been terrible. I owned a Weishi 2400A (I think it was) and hated it. Terrible razor. The 9306/MTO is quality, IMHO. I weighed it with my flaretip and it was the exact same. I think the main difference was that the 9306/MTO doesn't have a flaretip, but is otherwise identical. In the last years I've tried a number of SS's trying to find one I like, and none were any better than the 9306/MTO as far as I could tell. I think a lot of bad mouthing on the MTO comes from people who tried the 2400A and that that's what the MTO is, but I also think a lot of people won't let it be a good razor no matter what. it's just a piece of cheap chinese garbage, or whatever. Those people never will be happy unless they overpay for a brand name, so I usually don't listen to those people.
My bad, it's not 2400A it's 2004-V. Here's a pic. It looks a lot like the 9306 but it's made from cheaper materials and the doors aren't very good quality. I've used both and they are worlds of difference. EDIT: This image is from Amazon, and even from this you can see that the doors don't close properly!
It seems to me the letter suffixes in the 9306 line refer to the finish. It's gonna be interesting to see how people react to this razor. If they tried it double blind somehow, I bet it would garner praise.
Yeah, there are a number of great finishes on the 9306. One day I may pick up a gunmetal one. They also make a plastic 9306, I think. I think in a double blind test it would do well.
We think alike here...if I were to buy another it would absolutely be the gunmetal. It's a classy looking finish.
In the early days of my RAD (you know, way back in August ) I ordered the gunmetal version from China. It never showed, and in September the seller issued me a refund. I didn't want the $6 back... I wanted my gunmetal Weishi! Speaking of unique finishes, anyone seen a black Teflon finish? I saw one while browsing The Shave Nook. Apparently some guy in Colorado does them.
