Sorry it's been a few days. Last night I realized not shaving was irritating my face more than usual so I haphazardly grabbed a Maggard OC that I had put a new Merkur blade into earlier in the day. I've decided my new Stirling boat brush is just too big and was having troubles keeping the lather in the proper places. Either way my mind was elsewhere and I paid for it. Nothing too bad but the Alum came in handy even if it did sting more than usual. Note to self, do not keep intended shaver near another that you didn't plan on using for a bit. Lastly to lose the days minor irritations and such to focus on a good shave. Bummed my FaTip not any mail arrived today. I think the Mail guy just skipped our street as we never are free from junk mail as the daughters off to college next year. I'll shave again tonight going the Merkur 34C it's due with the feather blade. Stupid question but when using soaps like Razorock or other that comes in its own tub, do you just lather up in its own container or scoop some out to a dish, then concentrate on suddsing it up? Now that I have quite a few of these, I'm curious? Sorry no bloody pictures. Having multiple first world issues over the past 24 hours. I need to count my blessings, I guess. I load my brush in the container, then go to a lather bowl to build the lather. Typically, I soak the brush in hot water while showering, then dump out the water, and shake the brush until it is mostly empty. One or two more shakes would have it as dry as it is when I put it away. Then I go to the soap container, and work it enough do get a very thick lather paste built up in the bush and in the soap container. Then I tip the container up, and wipe all of that paste out into the lather bowl. Then I add a little water at a time with my hand to the bowl as I work the lather, until I get the good stuff.
Now in my book that's another win for TTT. It's really just a pain stick. Just a cheap plastic one. But because you already have mastered the pain stick....this is no problem. Just adjust to the particular design and let technique win the day! Bring on the rough can lids I say!
Description of the bloody mess are enough for most of us. The worse part about posting those photos happens a day or three later when you feel compelled to ask, "Does this look infected?" Hint; no thank you.
OCtober-een! October 27 Grand Blade Trials Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (6) Blade - (2) Soap - Arko Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Post - Alum Second day on the Gillette Wilkinson. The Indian Wilkie that supposedly (if you read enough reviews and such) doesn't live up to the reputation of the German Wilkie. Well, I'm here to dispel that rumor. At least so far. Last night at the mild 2 this blade produced a smooth and very nice DFS. Tonight on 6.....the baby is in the house and it was as smooth as smooth gets. I have no complaints at all about this shave and the alum provided evidence that it is a smooth as I thought. Minor stinging around the goatee line. That's normal for me. Nothing else. Not sure why some have considered it a bit inferior. I certainly don't at this point. Now, as has happened with other blades so far, it's possible that tomorrow at 9 will turn this into a harsh finish. But, as far as on the mild and medium levels go....this one is a winner. I'm impressed. Four days left in the month my friends. NOV(ariation)ember is fast approaching. I'm considering taking a break from the Trials for a Rule but still thinking. By shaving at night I'm giving myself more time to work with razors I haven't had a lot of time with. Still mulling it over. Hope you are having a great week and have a great weekend planned! And if you happen to be in India this coming weekend and don't want to ride the train - there are other options!
So I did a little work on the hones tonight, to continue my focus of only using my own edges this month. I also wanted to try an OC to be part of OC October. Here's my planned shave for tomorrow.
Thanks. The thirty day threads has helped immensely. After shaving with every thing from a Feather AC to a popsicle stick razor, a little plastic stick razor was a piece of cake. I think I'll draw the line at can lids for now. I have a nice scar on my finger from a can lid and have a little can lid phobia. It will take a few more months before I'm ready for that challenge.
Used the Merkur 34C tonight I used the dragon's blood lathered in bowl it came in. Feather razor second use. I broke out the Boar brush from Omega and it did a very impressive job, losing only one hair the Merkur 34C performed flawlessly while riding the cap with little touch up. I used the alum block with little difficulty. Just a little buzzed after a goo bottle of wine. , but no weepers or bleeders Alum felt good. I held the 34C, much closer to the head than a different razor, which made riding the cap much easier. Over all a DFS with little touch up. Much better than last nights shave. I took my time. I like the Feather blades and the dragon's blood soap. The cold water rinse was nice as was the alum block Overall I am quite pleased. Happy shaves to the rest of you. I found out waiting to shave can be detrimental if you have some curly facial hair. Lessened learned. Overall, I like the 34C. Can't wait to try out the Piccolo. B&BW after shave balm applied after clean up. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Did I say that I really like Feather Stainless platinum blades. They seem to be a favorite currently. I wasn't a fan of the Merkur blade. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
October 28, 2016 Timeless OC .95 Gap with Triad Ti Feather (2) Rudy Vey Rover with TGN Finest Reef Point Dragon’s Blood Witch Hazel Fine Platinum Another very good 3 pass shave this morning. After minimal touch ups, I ended the shave with a near BBS. The Timeless OC is an exceptionally efficient razor. The Reef Point Dragon's Blood continues to impress me with each use. I will certainly buy more Reef Point soaps in the future. Finished off the shave with a splash of Fine Platinum. I hope everyone has a fantastic Friday.
SOTD October 28, 2016 Blade: Chinese Schick Razor: Schick L1 injector Brush: Omega 10049 boar Lather: Mitchell's Wool Fat Post: Witch hazel splash, Fine American Blend, Nivea sensitive balm WTG, touch-up Really nice shave this morning. Mitchell's is never a disappointment to me. Excellent lather today and the Schick L1 continues to be a great razor. Fine American Blend finished off a great way to start the day. Have a great day!
Thank you Doug. I am hoping to make it a short day. My daughter is home for a long weekend and I am looking forward to spending time with the family.
Sick kid last night meant I didn't get up early enough to shave. Will use my OC Straight razor tonight.
October 28, 2016- Yes, Milord. Razor: '48-'49 Gillette Milord Blade: Astra SP (5) Brush: Floppy Chinese Badger Soap: Nutragena French Milled Soap Another day of my Milord mini-focus and another great shave. I tried for a minute to picture myself as a well-though-of man of the late 40's, the sort of person who would have rated a Milord back in the day. No luck, though... just another day in a world that would have completely baffled him.
Oct. 28 Soap - Proraso Green Tub Brush - Omega 10098 Boar Ceramic Suribachi Bowl Blade - Blade - Gillette Silver Blue - Russia Razor - 1937 Gillette Sheraton Aftershave - Ginger's Garden Swede splash on and Tabac Cologne Another easy 2 pass shave. Today is the second day on this blade. I created a very nice lather with the almost spent prorasso and the big boar brush. This made for an easy two pass N/S & E/W shave. Gingers Swede splash on left my face velvety smooth.
