When you post pictures of yours, I have resurrected the old Stahly thread in the Safety Razors forum.
Picked up an F4 dated Toggle, looks to be in good condition with the original paint still intact. Paid more than I would have liked to but nowhere near as what the seller was asking.
Remains to be seen in person and tested. I've had a few Toggles in the past but sold them. It is not like they are as rare as it is made out to be but as long as people are willing to pay COVID inflated prices still, that is the market like it or not.
I've had the privilege to use one with the option to keep it afterwards and I passed because it was too mild. With that said it is still a nice collector piece and maybe you'll find it a better shaver. Also the razor qualifies as a unicorn. Your's is the first one I've seen for sale in 5 years. I've seen a few before but they were already owned and not for sale. There is only 1 Type A that is even more unicornish than that one and it is a Type A with a floral handle like the Gillette pocket edition razors. I've never seen one of those except for in an old catalog.
Thanks, if anything like the A1 it'll be a smooth and efficient shaver for me. Not sure how the 2 compare but have to know
Best way to find out. One reason I think that razor is so rare when I did some research on Autostrops I found that they only sold those in Canada and England between about 1916 - 1919. In the US they went directly to Type B razors in that time frame. The type B razors didn't show up in Canada or England until around 1919.
Here is my shave with it from last year. https://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/injector-se-party.23113/page-1468#post-1778668
Congrats! Cool find! I keep looking out for one of those ever since you told me about the push button vs lever. Now i see what you mean. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When I asked the seller if he had any others that were uncased as I planned on using it he said he had a user grade one with a lot of brass showing for $45 and $4 shipping. When he sent me the pictures and I saw it, That let me know what I would be willing to go to on this just to get it cased and not having to get it replated.
